Art, diversity, multiculturalism and community are some of the major elements that make Toronto special. The year of 2021, Year of Public Art, has been dedicated as the kick-off year for the City’s new 10-Year of Public Art Strategy signaling Toronto’s renewed commitment to public art.
The College Promenade BIA has received a grant of $8000 to create a pubic art installation in our neighbourhood (our boundaries are along College Street between Havelock St and Shaw St).
Our vision is that we would like to see art installations with a sound or light component on some of our tree grates that are located on the north side of the street. We would like to see them activated as people walk by, perhaps giving positive messages or affirmations. The tree grates DO have electrical access, so there is opportunity to use it if needed.
A minimum of 3 tree grates - spread throughout the BIA, must be created.
